Aigner is a mom and pop chocolate shop in Queens, New York. They sell sweet delightful confectionaries that range from your guilty pleasures to filling big corporate orders.
They approached us to shoot and help overhaul their website and product catalogue. The work that we do for them ranges from single item photography, creative layouts to shooting their corporate catalogue. They’re a lot of fun to work with. This kind of business attracts owners who are a little eccentric in the most delightful ways. And the creative ideas that they come up with really make the work stand out. Creativity isn’t just about high minded conceptual artwork. Sometimes it’s something as simple as breaking thee chocolate apart to show the gooey middle and leaving the chocolate dust scattered around. Sometimes with product photography the temptation is to make everything perfect. But often it’s the imperfections, the broken edges and scattered pieces that give the work a realistic desirable quality. It’s more immediate and delicious as opposed to being intellectually appealing.
Chocolate is just fun to shoot. We setup a portable photo studio on site at their shop/production facility. Remote shoots are an option that we considered but in this case it’s easier to be close to the production and it’s more efficient working in-person vs. over email or text. Chocolate production can be a messy business and working onsite we often have to clean red orange goo off the camera equipment. But it’s so worth it for the beautiful artwork that we create together.
